“We have put all the critiques and loopholes in the MoU in front of the minister, who said that he will either find a suitable middle ground on the issue or consider dissolving it entirely,” said artist Surekha, member of the VAG Forum, who was present at the meeting. “Our biggest conference on April 10 will see us proposing an alternative model to private adoption in the lines of other artist-led museums in the country.”
Addressing the concerns of Poddar’s plans to reconstruct the VAG entirely, Deshpande has proposed that the building be inspected by the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage ( INTACH). This would help determine if there is a need to create a new structure.
The gathering on April 10 is likely to see representation from art, film, music and theatre fraternity. The venue and time is yet to be finalised.
